Facebook Lite, Twitter Competition?
I think it’s safe to say that Facebook and Twitter are different applications, I’m not so sure if you can say the same about Facebook Lite and Twitter. Yesterday Facebook launched the public beta of their newest project Facebook Lite. Facebook Lite is a “light” version of Facebook. It strips away a lot of the features of a regular Facebook page and leaves you with comments, photos and video. The obvious thing people are saying is that Facebook is trying to compete with Twitter. I would probably say the same thing. Twitter seems to be eating everyone’s lunch due to how easily and simple it is to use. Facebook and MySpace have tried to add micro-blogging to their sites, but it’s been unsuccessful. With Facebook Lite users will now have the ability to use Facebook more like a Twitter page. This sounds good in theory, but there is still a HUGE difference between the two, privacy. With Twitter just about anyone can see your profile and vice versa, with Facebook you have to “friend” someone to be able to see what they’re writing. I think the openness of Twitter is what brings so many users. Facebook will need to decide how they’re going to handle this. Facebook Lite is a good step for Facebook, but I don’t think it will pull over that many Twitter users. What do you think of the new Facebook Lite?
