Is Twitter Screwing The Little Guys?
Lately Twitter has been on a tear releasing new features. Many of these new features are already in existence from 3rd party developers. Take the famous tweetmeme button. Nothing has helped Twitter with its growth more than the tweetme button. Instantly news stories, blog posts, pictures and more were being spread across the Internet with just one little button. It’s hard to run across a blog that doesn’t use the tweetme button or another 3rd party tweet button. Now with Twitters releasing their own tweet button will tweetmeme stay relevant?
Just this week Twitter released their own app for the iPad and a few months ago for the iPhone. There currently are a number of popular 3rd party cell phone Twitter apps, but again, how long will they stay relevant with Twitter pushing out their own apps?
I’m not hear to pass judgment because Twitter can do whatever they damn well please and it looks like they are doing so. However, Twitter’s growth came from these early innovators that made applications to help expand Twitter. Don’t you think Twitter should be a little more thankful to these companies instead of potentially pushing them out of business? What do you think?
