It’s Time to Start a Blog
In the past I’ve told you about ways to enhance your blog. Now it’s time to take it back to square one and talk about creating a blog for those of you that don’t have one. Blogs have come a long way since the first days of WordPress and Blogger. Today’s blogs are extremely user friendly and fairly easy to setup and maintain. No matter if you use the blog to promote yourself or your business you definitely need a blog. I’m not going to give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to setup a blog, I’m just going to tell you about how you can setup a blog and what you can do with the blog.
The two dominant blog software providers are WordPress and Blogger. WordPress is an open source platform and Blogger is owned and operated by Google. The best part is both blog platforms are 100% free to use. WordPress has a hosted version that can be used on the WordPress servers or you can install the unhosted version on your own server. The advantage of having the unhosted version is that you can have your own specific URL for your blog and there is more functionality available to you. With the hosted version your URL will be something like myblog.wordpress.com. Since blogs have grown such much in popularity most hosting providers will automatically install the blog for you. I know for example that godaddy.com with automatically install WordPress for you with a simple click of a button.
Once you have your blog installed and setup it’s time to customize it to your liking. Bloggers is easier to customize for beginners because there are defined fields. WordPress allows complete customization from top to bottom. Either way to get started you can through a picture at the top of the blog and adjust the colors. Most blogs come standard with a left or ride sidebar. The sidebar is used to put an entire myriad of ads, links, widgets and whatever else you can squeeze in. There are literally thousands of free widgets that you can add to the sidebar. Just like the Apple commercial says “there’s an app for that”, there’s probably a widget for anything you can think of. Most widgets are designed by freelancers and are free to use by the public.
Now that you have your blog setup the way you want it to look it’s time start blogging. Blogging meaning writting posts and attaching pictures if you want. Just as a the blog look and feel is customizable so are the post you may want to write about. People create blogs to write about their business, personal life, world events, whatever you can think of. The goal of your blog should be to keep people coming back. To do that you need to make sure you write unique content. If you write the same story as everyone else nobody will read your blog. Keep it interesting and of course being in the adult industry a few nude photos here and there doesn’t hurt either.
A built in advantage of a blog is that they are optimized for search engines. In fact blogs are probably the most optimized piece of software you could use for the web. After a week of having your blog up top web engines like Google and Yahoo will already pick up your blog and start indexing your posts. There’s an argument that Blogger based blogs get indexed faster because Blogger is owned by Google, but most people say this is only a myth. Whichever blog software you choose you can feel comfortable knowing that your blog will get indexed with very little work on your end. You’ll also be happy to know that both blogging platforms allow for adult content. A few years ago Blogger went on a rampage deleted blogs with adult content, now they allow adult content with a warning button that users must click before entering the blog.
So there you have it, a few basics and some tips about setting up and maintaining a blog. You can choose how simple or advance you want to make it. I suggest to keep it simple in the beginning and build it up more and more as you get familiar with whichever blogging platform you choose. There are a million web pages out there dedicated to creating and maintaining a blog so if you have any questions do a Google search and chances are you’ll find your answer. I look forward to reading your new blogs!!!!!
