My Account Was Deleted WTF?!?!

It happens to many people in the industry, one day you have a popular profile up on a social networking site and the next day you receive an email that your profile has been removed for inappropriate content. Raise your hand if this has happened to you. How could this be? Is there really someone or an army of people sitting in a small room looking through profiles searching for inappropriate content? The reality is no. On most popular social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace there are millions and millions of profiles. There is no way to monitor everyone’s profile so these sites rely on the community to report inappropriate material.

So now you’re thinking, “OK, if the sites are not monitoring my profile, then who is?”. You might think the answer is some radical group that hates porn or people that don’t like to see naked people. The real answer is most likely someone that doesn’t like you, an enemy. As the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. 9 out of 10 times when a profile is deleted it’s because someone that wants to get you in trouble reports you.

So how do you prevent this from happening? I don’t really have any good ideas for you. If you’re posting “inappropriate” content on a site that doesn’t allow it, you’re taking a risk. If you want to continue to take the risk keep your enemies blocked from seeing your profile. In the case your profile does get deleted email the site and ask for forgiveness and say it will never happen again. Chances are they won’t restore your account, but at least they’ll let you create a new account.
