XBIZ LA Day 2

Unfortunately I did not adjust to the time difference like I thought I would. I was up at 4 in the morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, uhhhh. I decided to get up and get ready and just head over to the Starbucks which is right around the corner from my hotel room. The first session at XBIZ didn’t start until 10AM, so I had 4 freaking hours to kill. Thankfully I got a lot of work done at Starbucks, but I had to do it covertly since most of the work involved looking at porn! As I mentioned in one of my tweets yesterday I don’t think they give a damn about looking at porn in public here so it was all good.

After putting in some serious time at Starbucks I headed over to XBIZ which started the same was as Day 1, with a speed networking event. Since most of the people at the sessions were the same as the day before I decided to skip out and do even more work. The next session was a traffic building session which I was excited to attend.

The traffic building session was very interesting to say the least. The presentation centered around using a number of different techniques to integrate sites such as Digg, Twitter, Flickr, WordPress and more. The overall technique is called a feeder blog technique. I won’t go into the specifics here, but it is an interesting technique I may give a try in the near future. If you’re a webmaster and would like to see the presentation just let me know.

Next stop was lunch. Again, lunch was awesome. Skirt steak, salad, tortellini, potatoes and pretzel bread….with an assortment of desserts. During lunch I meet the owner of Pornstartweet and Adultcon. Both guys were super cool and I was happy to meet them. We bullshitted about everything from social networking, to the industry to how we could work together. I think a lot of good things are going to come out of our initial discussions. BTW, @pornstartweet is going to be tweeting pics live from the XBIZ red carpet tonight so make sure to follow them.

The sessions after lunch was a panel that discussed the current state of the industry. I was late to this event so I missed most of the discussion. What I did hear focused around tube site. Tube sites are a big part of the adult industry, but many people feel they are slowly killing the industry. There are arguments for and against these site, but I won’t get into that discussion here. Lets just say the panel had very interesting takes on tube sites.

The last session of the day was the key note presentation from the owner of Pink Visual, Allison Vivas. She spoke about how the growth, decline and rebirth of Pink Visual over the past 10 years. It was interesting to hear about the overall life of a porn company and the ups and downs they experienced over the years.

While waiting for the evening event I sat next to a gentlemen in the lobby and we struck up a conversation. He happened to be the owner of some of the largest gay websites. It was a very interesting conversation to say the least. He talked to me about his experiences in the industry over the last 17 years and what he thought the future held. We also discussed mypornprofile.com and he was really excited about the concept. Now as you all know MPP is focused on straight content, but he made a very strong case to have a mirror site for gay. Not sure if I’m ready to add such a site, but hey, you never know.

Overall I had a good day, meet a lot of great people and even learned a few things. More meeting/learning tomorrow and of course the big awards ceremony. Lets hope we bring home an award, it wouldn’t be for me, it would be for all of you!!
